The online Graduate Diploma in Data Science at UNSW covers the foundational skills of data science as applied in computer science, economics and mathematics.

You'll learn about important decision-making techniques, along with how to be a good data storyteller. The course also includes programming, statistics and data systems.

The fast track option means you could graduate with the diploma in 16 months. It also provides a pathway to study the Master of Data Science, should you continue to take it to the next level.

What You'll Need to Get In

To do this course, you'll need:

A recognised bachelor's degree (or equivalent qualification) in a non-cognate discipline AND have sufficient Data Science background as indicated by an average of 65 or above across three Level III courses in Mathematics and/or Statistics and/or Computer Science and/or Econometrics; OR
A recognised bachelor's degree (or equivalent qualification) in a non-cognate discipline AND have sufficient Data Science background as indicated by at least five years of experience in a data science or data analytics role; AND
To be proficient in the English language.

Entry via nested qualification

If you have completed a Graduate Certificate in Data Science with a WAM of 65% or higher as per the UNSW Admissions entry calculator, you can progress to the Graduate Diploma in Data Science.

Subject Breakdown

The Graduate Diploma in Data Science comprises eight online subjects. Completing these courses will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of Data Science, and the practices crucial to decision-making techniques and good data storytelling.

Should you choose to pursue Master of Data Science upon the successful completion of your Graduate Diploma, the following prerequisites must be considered:

Principles of Programming is a prerequisite for Data Mining & Machine Learning, Neural Networks, Deep Learning & Big Data Management.
Foundations of Data Science is a prerequisite for Regression Analysis for Data Scientists, Data Visualisation and Communication & Multivariate Analysis for Data Scientists.
Statistical Inference for Data Scientists is a prerequisite for Regression Analysis for Data Scientists & Multivariate Analysis for Data Scientists.

The total indicative cost of completing your degree depends on the elective subjects you choose to complete and any recognition of prior learning before the commencement of your studies. Fees are subject to annual review by the University and may increase annually, with the new fees effective from the start of each calendar year. Eligible students may be able to apply for a government loan scheme, FEE-HELP.

FEE-HELP

You may be eligible to receive FEE-HELP for this course!

This course can be paid for through the FEE-HELP government loan scheme. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, you may not need to pay upfront.

Instead, the Australian government will pay your course fees directly to the provider on your behalf. You'll begin repaying your loan through the tax system once you start earning more than the minimum threshold of $48,361 (2022-23 income year).
