How do I repay a FEE-HELP loan?

You begin repaying your FEE-HELP loan once your income exceeds the minimum repayment threshold. Repayments are made automatically through the tax system. Current thresholds can be found at ato.gov.au.

What’s the FEE-HELP loan limit?

As of 2025, the combined HELP loan limit is $121,844 for most students, or $162,336 for medicine, dentistry, and veterinary science courses. This includes all HELP loans across your studies. For updates, visit StudyAssist.

Does FEE-HELP cover living expenses or textbooks?

No. FEE-HELP only covers tuition fees. You are responsible for any other expenses such as textbooks, laptops, and transport costs. Some students may also be eligible for Centrelink study support. Check eligibility at Services Australia.

Can I use FEE-HELP for short courses?

Some graduate certificates and diplomas may be eligible for FEE-HELP. The course must be delivered by an approved higher education provider. Always check with the provider before applying.

Will FEE-HELP affect my credit score?

No. FEE-HELP loans do not impact your credit history or score. Repayments are managed through the ATO and not recorded with credit agencies.
