What is a Care Manager?
A Care Manager leads the delivery of care to people who need support. They work in aged care homes, hospitals, and community health services across Australia. Their job is to build care plans and run a team of carers. They make sure each client gets the right support.
The role covers a wide range of tasks. Care Managers check each client’s needs and design a personal care plan. They work with nurses, allied health staff, and families to carry out that plan. They review progress often and update plans as needs change. Good talking skills are key, as the role involves daily contact with clients and health teams.
Care Managers also handle the admin side of their service. They manage budgets, keep records up to date, and ensure the service meets all aged care standards. Many also train and support care staff, helping build a skilled and caring team.
Most employers ask for a certificate or diploma in aged care, nursing, or community services. Hands-on care experience is also important. As Australia’s population ages, the demand for skilled Care Managers is growing across the country.
