About Career Boost (QLD)
The Queensland Government’s Career Boost program supports eligible individuals by providing subsidised training opportunities in selected Certificate IV and higher-level qualifications, as well as priority skill sets. The program aims to strengthen workforce productivity by targeting high-demand skills through subsidised training in Certificate IV, Diploma, and Advanced Diploma qualifications.
Subsidies are delivered via approved Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) and are paid directly to the provider as training is delivered and reported to the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training.
The level of subsidy varies depending on the qualification and its alignment with industry demand and government priorities. Qualifications that meet critical skills needs are given higher investment priority, resulting in a greater government contribution.
FAQs
How do I enrol in a Career Boost subsidised course?
First, choose an approved training provider from the Queensland Skills Gateway. The provider will confirm your eligibility and help you enrol. You can search here: skillsgateway.training.qld.gov.au.
Can I study online with Career Boost funding?
Yes. Many Registered Training Organisations offer HLS courses online, giving you the flexibility to study around work or family commitments.
Does the program support workers looking to upskill?
Absolutely. Career Boost targets people who are already in the workforce but need to gain higher-level skills for career progression, or to pivot into a different field with better job opportunities.
What are ‘priority skill sets’ under this funding?
Priority skill sets are groups of competencies that don’t form a full qualification but meet a specific industry need. These are also funded under the Career Boost program for targeted upskilling.
What industries are covered by HLS funding?
Priority industries include aged care, disability support, business, ICT, construction, and community services. These areas are selected to reflect Queensland’s workforce needs.
