In this course, you'll gain the skills and experience needed to flourish as a primary school educator.  Your studies cover core elements of the teaching profession, helping you link theory to practice, design an engaging curriculum and connect with your young students.

This teaching course includes an extensive program of professional practice with one of the 600 primary schools that partner with Edith Cowan University. There's no better way to prepare for the realities of the classroom than getting hands-on experience while you learn!

You'll have the opportunity to gain experience in diverse primary education environments including city and remote schools, public and private institutions, allowing you to work with children from diverse economic, social, ethnic and educational backgrounds.

    To be eligible to study this course, applicants must meet the following entry requirements:

    • Submission of a 500 word personal statement outlining why you wish to become a teacher; AND
    • Have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in an area other than education relevant to the Australian Curriculum or other recognised areas of schooling provision; AND
    • Have completed at least one year of full time equivalent study relevant to one or more learning areas of the primary school curriculum; AND
    • Meet English competency requirements.

    In order to complete the Professional Practice requirement of this course, you will need:

    • A valid National Police History Check from the Department of Education WA; AND
    • A valid Working with Children Check from the Department for Child Protection and Family Support WA.

    OPTION 2: PROFESSIONAL LEARNING - INTERNSHIP MODE

    OPTION 3: PROFESSIONAL LEARNING - GRADUATE CERTIFICATE MODE
    In consultation with the course coordinator, students may select two Graduate Certificate of Education units totalling 30 credit points.

    OPTION 4: PROFESSIONAL LEARNING - SPECIALISATION MODE
    Students may select one specialisation totalling 30 credit points.

Graduates of this course are eligible to register with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA). Registration is required to practice in the profession.

You may be eligible to receive FEE-HELP for this course!

This course can be paid for through the FEE-HELP government loan scheme. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, you may not need to pay upfront.

Instead, the Australian government will pay your course fees directly to the provider on your behalf. You'll begin repaying your loan through the tax system once you start earning more than the minimum threshold of $55,874 (2017-18 income year).
