In this course, you'll gain the skills and experience needed to flourish as a primary school educator.  Your studies cover core elements of the teaching profession, helping you link theory to practice, design an engaging curriculum and connect with your young students.

You'll have the opportunity to gain experience in diverse primary education environments including city and remote schools, public and private institutions, allowing you to work with children from diverse economic, social, ethnic and educational backgrounds.

    Year 2 - Trimester 1

    • Strategies for teaching Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
    • Programming and assessment in numeracy

    • Programming and assessment in literacy

    Year 2 - Trimester 2

    • Third Professional Practice

    Year 2 - Trimester 3

    All students complete the following unit:

    • Transition to Teaching

    As well as complete one of the following options:


    • Research Preparation: Methods of Research
    • Advanced Seminar


    • Internship

    In consultation with the course coordinator, students may select two Graduate Certificate of Education units totalling 30 credit points.

    Students may select one specialisation totalling 30 credit points.

Where Will This Course Take You?

Upon successful completion of this course you will receive a Master of Teaching (Primary) from Edith Cowan University.

Through the course, you will have gained the skills and knowledge required to begin a career as a primary school teacher in addition to completing an extensive program of professional practice with partnering schools.

Graduates of this course are eligible to register with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA). Registration is required to practice in the profession.

You may be eligible to receive FEE-HELP for this course!

This course can be paid for through the FEE-HELP government loan scheme. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, you may not need to pay upfront.

Instead, the Australian government will pay your course fees directly to the provider on your behalf. You'll begin repaying your loan through the tax system once you start earning more than the minimum threshold of $45,881 (2019-20 income year).
