In a Nutshell

The Diploma of Nursing from Open Colleges is the premier qualification for nursing in Australia. It is the perfect starting point for anyone in South Australia or Western Australia wishing to become an Enrolled Nurse.

Throughout the course, students will learn the basics of practising nursing within the Australian healthcare system. From assessing the health status of clients and planning necessary care to applying legal and ethical parameters to nursing practice, students will receive a rounded introduction into the world of nursing. There is a keen focus on practical skills, covering everything from managing wounds in a clinical environment to administering and monitoring medicines and intravenous therapy.

Students attend campus two days per week for facilitated learning and practical skills sessions. Face-to-face attendance is supplemented through online self-directed learning packages, workbooks and assessment materials.

    To be eligible to study this course, applicants must meet the following entry requirements:

    • You must be an Australian citizen or have a permanent humanitarian visa or visa with study rights; AND
    • You must reside in South Australia or Western Australia; AND
    • You must complete the Core Skills Test; AND
    • You will also need to:
      • Have successfully completed Year 12 or its equivalent in Australia, OR
      • Apply based on your work and/or life experience.
