The CHC50413 Diploma of Youth Work from Open Colleges will equip you with the tools to empower disadvantaged and at risk youths, giving you the opportunity to make a genuine difference to young people in need.
Designed for people starting out in youth work or for those already in the industry seeking to formalise their skills with a qualification, this in-depth community services course teaches you how to work with diverse groups of young people, identify young people at risk, and how to address legal and ethical issues. It will also offer basic training in counselling, and help you understand how to work with individuals struggling with mental health issues. The main focus of this course is to build your skills in case management and program and activity planning.
Students are required to undertake a work placement of 160 hours in order to demonstrate their competencies in the practical components of the course work.
There are no mandated education entry requirements for this qualification.
To be eligible to study this course, it is recommended that students the following prerequisites:
Learners must have a basic level of physical fitness as the role may involve a variety of tasks that require a moderate amount of physical activity, such as providing direct assistance to clients with daily living, participating in social and recreational activities and managing a crisis.
HLTAID003/HLTAID011 Provide first aid requires learners to undertake Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) continuously for a minimum of 2 minutes while kneeling on the floor.
