Are you a qualified nurse keen to pursue a career in nursing education or leadership and management? La Trobe University's Master of Nursing Science could be the course you're looking for.
Delivered entirely online for maximum flexibility, this degree allows you to study with a leader in nursing education and develop comprehensive nursing research knowledge and key skills in leadership or education, including critical thinking, problem solving and effective communication in an ethically oriented professional practice. You'll learn to make high-level independent judgments, plan and implement practice in specialty contexts and work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
With its flexible structure, this qualification is designed to fit in alongside your existing commitments. You can complete the full degree in 20 months, choose from three different exit points or pause your studies at any time and take them up again during one of seven yearly course intakes.
If plans change, and you can no longer commit to the full Master of Nursing Science, you could still be eligible to receive a postgraduate qualification.
Depending on the units you've completed, you could exit with a Graduate Certificate in Nursing Science (60 credit points) or a Graduate Diploma of Nursing Science (120 credit points).

As a student of La Trobe University Online, you’ll be able to log in to the Learning Management System (LMS) to access your course materials 24/7, so you can study when and where it suits you. You’ll also receive email and phone access to a designated student services specialist for the duration of your course.
If you’d like to update your research skills, or you just need some subject advice, a Peer Learning Adviser (PLA) can offer support at every turn. All students of La Trobe – online or on campus – also receive ongoing access to a range of academic, career and personal support services, including assignment writing and referencing skills courses, career development workshops, and counselling.
Upon successful completion of this course you will receive a nationally recognised, accredited Master of Nursing Science from La Trobe University.
Once you graduate, you'll be equipped with in-depth knowledge of nursing research and ethics, as well as enhanced leadership and management skills and a stronger understanding of nursing education; this could allow you to pursue employment as a teacher, mentor or clinical supervisor.
Eligible students can apply for a FEE-HELP loan to cover the upfront costs of all, or part of your fees.
Alternatively, you can pay annually for the units you select to study in that year.
La Trobe University also offers a number of scholarships to successful applicants.
This course can be paid for through the FEE-HELP government loan scheme. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, you may not need to pay upfront.
Instead, the Australian government will pay your course fees directly to the provider on your behalf. You'll begin repaying your loan through the tax system once you start earning more than the minimum threshold of $54,869 (2016-17 income year).
