This Graduate Diploma in Midwifery course involves both practical and theoretical training with a focus on evidence-based knowledge and skills in midwifery, giving you the capability to provide safe professional care to both the mother and her baby.
You will study legislation and common law affecting midwifery practice and be prepared to demonstrate the National Competency Standards for the Midwife, while also gaining an understanding of the practice of midwifery in the maternity care environment.
In addition to your on-campus classes and coursework, Curtin University requires you to secure a student midwife clinical contract with a hospital for the duration of the clinical component of the course prior to commencement. A minimum of 1,500 hours of clinical practice are required to successfully complete the course.

Curtin University offers a broad range of student support services to help you perform at your best. Online students have 24-hour access to Curtin’s online learning platform, Blackboard, where they can interact with coursework, submit assignments and collaborate with fellow students. If you encounter any technical problems, Curtin’s IT support team is contactable from 6am-11pm every day during the semester. Curtin also runs free study skills workshops and student mentoring programs on campus to help you progress through your course.
The university also provides support for online and on-campus students that extends beyond your academic studies. This includes free counseling sessions, disability support services and careers advice through its Careers Centre.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive a Graduate Diploma in Midwifery from Curtin University.
You will be eligible to apply for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, allowing you to provide care to mother and baby in a variety of maternity care settings.
This course is accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council and approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.

This course can be paid for through the FEE-HELP government loan scheme. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, you may not need to pay upfront.
Instead, the Australian government will pay your course fees directly to the provider on your behalf. You'll begin repaying your loan through the tax system once you start earning more than the minimum threshold of $54,869 (2016-17 income year).
