The Bachelor of Nursing from the University of New England lets you take the first step towards a rewarding career in professional nursing. This course, delivered both online and on campus, will equip you with the qualifications, knowledge base and practical skills necessary for the practice of nursing.
You'll develop a solid foundation of knowledge in a wide array of areas related to nursing. You'll also gain valuable hands-on experience with a mandatory clinical placement. When you graduate, you'll be eligible to pursue professional nursing in both Australia and New Zealand by attaining Registered Nurse status with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA).
This course has flexible entry options and delivery modes. Units are offered in all three trimesters, so students can complete the course in two years. Beginner students may commence studies in trimester one of the first year; enrolled nurses may enter in trimester one or two of the second year. Students may also exit the course after the first year and seek Advanced Standing into the TAFE Diploma of Nursing and Endorsed Enrolled Nurse status with the NMBA.
The second and third years of the course are delivered via a combination of on-campus and online learning plus clinical practice, allowing you to fit your study alongside your other commitments.
This course allows you to undertake an optional Honours year for students who would like to extend the depth and breadth of their undergraduate studies. Completing Honours studies helps improve your problem-solving and research skills, and demonstrates a more wide-ranging understanding of your chosen discipline to prospective employers.
High-achieving students with a GPA that meets the eligibility criteria for this course may be able to complete an additional one-year degree program, and graduate with a Bachelor of Nursing with Honours.
This course includes a mandatory work placement component to ensure that you graduate with a strong mix of practical industry experience that complements your learning. You will be required to complete 880 hours of placement, in consultation with the School.
