Child care is an industry that for too long has been misunderstood as a job for ‘glorified babysitters’. When we think of child care services, it’s hard not to think of things like the Wiggles, Playschool and Sesame Street. But early childhood development goes far beyond friendly Muppets or the rocket clock. The reality is that child care is crucial to Australia’s economy in a number of ways. Not only does it enable parents, particularly women, to return to the workforce and thereby increase our nation’s productivity; many experts agree that the better the child care and early childhood education services, the better a nation’s future.
