About this course

With the Bachelor of Animal Science at Murdoch University, you'll learn how to improve quality, safety, sustainability and humane practice as an animal scientist.

The course covers farm and agricultural practices, animal management, disease control and molecular DNA techniques. You'll also learn how food and fibre production works, and find new ways to improve these techniques.

You'll be trained in animal handling, have the chance to work on an independent research project and take part in industry placements, applying your knowledge in a practical training environment.

The course has professional recognition from the Ag Institute Australia.

    To be eligible for entry into this course, applicants must meet the following entry requirements:

    • Completed Western Australian Universities' Foundation Program (WAUFT) CPA 54 or higher; OR
    • Completed Australian senior secondary studies with an ATAR equal to or above 70; OR
    • Achieved a multiple choice score of 135 or above in the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) (or a score of 145 if prior to May 2010); OR
    • Completed a recognised post-secondary course; OR
    • Completed approved university preparation (foundation) studies; OR
    • Completed at least one year of study at a recognised tertiary or higher education institution; OR
    • Completed 2 units at an Australian university or through Open Universities Australia

    It is also highly desirable for students to have studied WACE Chemistry 3A/3B and at least Mathematics 2A/2B. 

    If you don't meet any of these academic entry requirements, Murdoch University offers several pathways, including the FlexiTrack university preparation program, to help you qualify for this course.

PAYMENT OPTIONS

Eligible students can apply for a HECS-HELP loan to cover the upfront costs of all or part of your fees.

Alternatively, you can pay annually for the units you choose to study in that year.

Murdoch University also offers a number of scholarships to successful applicants.

HECS-HELP

You may be eligible to receive HECS-HELP for this course!

This course can be paid for through the HECS-HELP government loan scheme. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, you may not need to pay upfront.

Instead, the Australian government will pay your course fees directly to the provider on your behalf. You'll begin repaying your loan through the tax system once you start earning more than the minimum threshold of $54,869 (2016-17 income year).
